A Declaration of Minor form must be filled out and signed by the student and the Gerontology Coordinator.
The graduate minor in Gerontology consists of 12 credit hours, as follows:
Coursework – 9 hours from a variety of areas. One in each of the primary disciplines (health science, social science, behavioral science)

Health 406 – Death, Dying, & Bereavement (3)
Health 465 – Aging & Health (3)
Health 570 – Special Topics: in Gerontology (3)
PH 523 – Management in Extended Care Settings (3)
PH 650/H 650 – Health Aspects of Aging (3)Nutrition (health science)
NTR 518 – Nutrition & Aging (3)
Nursing (social science)
N 400 – Aging & Society (3)

SW 551 – Aging & Health Care Policy (open only to Social Work students) (3)
SW 540 -Psychological & Cognitive Aspects of Aging (3)
SW 566 – Social Gerontology (3)Other courses as approved by the coordinator of the minor (representative for the Gerontology Colloquy).
Applied Practicum – 3 hours of approved practicum in the “home” department of supervising faculty, or N 402 (Practicum in Gerontology - open to all students).
Successful completion of written comprehensive examination covering subject matter in the minor.
Graduate Committee: At least one faculty member with an interest in Gerontology who is qualified to work with graduate students must serve on the graduate committee of each student who declares a minor in Gerontology.
