Homework

Please write and run a FORTRAN code to:

Calculate the group absorption cross section for U-238 for a 3-10 eV group using each of these spectrum approximations:

(a) Narrow resonance approximation [My answer is 13.0 b]

(b) Wide resonance approximation [My answer is 5.60 b]

(c) Nordheim integral treatment [My answer is 5.66 b]

For each of these, use:

    • Fuel material is U(238)O2 with atom densities of  N(U)=0.022 atoms/barn/cm, N(O)=0.044 atoms/barn/cm
    • Cross sections from 92238.pxs and 8016.pxs files from previous assignments
    • Wigner rational approximation for P0
    • Dancoff factor of 0.2345
    • Definition of Gf from Slide 19 of Lesson 7 =P0= [1/(1+dSigT)]
    • Fuel OD=d=0.9234 cm
    • Note: For the SigT in the P0 and Gf equations, use .022(SigT of U238)+0.044*(SigT of O)
.
Please e-mail your results (with your code attached, if possible) to me:
