Reading Assignment: Section 3.4

Please answer the following questions from your reading:

  1. What is the Klein-Nishina formula used for?
  2. Why is Rayleigh scattering generally ignored?
  3. What are the three primary photon interaction mechanisms in the energy range we are interested in (1 keV-20 MeV)?  Over what energy range is each of these dominant for lead? (Use Figure 3.4 to answer the second question.)
