UTK Parking Service Appeal Guidelines
INFORMATION CONCERNING ALL APPEALS:
- An application for appeal must be filed within fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of the citation.
- Students have the option of filing their appeal as an oral or written appeal. This is the only chance for an oral appeal.
- Normal appeal decisions may take up to two weeks. Higher appeal decisions may take longer.
- Citation appeals are NOT accepted via e-mail.
IF YOU CHOOSE AN ORAL APPEAL:
- A Parking Services employee will make you an appointment to appear before the board. These appointments are made at the front desk of the Parking Services Office. Please remember to bring your appointment card when you appear before the board.
- You must submit your copy of the citation with your appeal. Please print you name and social security number on the citation. If for some reason you don't have your copy, you will need to know the license plate number of the vehicle on which the citation was written.
- Failure to appear without notifying the Parking Services Office by 3:00 PM on the date of your appeal will result in the forfeiture of your right to appeal and you will be held responsible for the payment of the citations(s) concerned.
- The board will inform you of their decision. If your appeal is not sustained, you will have fourteen calendar days from the date of your appeal to pay in order to avoid a 50% penalty.
IF YOU CHOOSE A WRITTEN APPEAL:
- You will leave your appeal (or fill it out online - see the link below for the online appeals form) and the board will notify you by mail of their decision. If your appeal is not sustained, you will have fourteen calendar days from the date processed (stamped at the bottom of the appeals form) to pay in order to avoid a 50% penalty.
- Citations general take one - two business days to be entered on our system. If you try to appeal your citation online and it is not there, please try back in a day or two. If two or three business days have passed and your citation is still not available online, you may want to contact us by phone. Please do NOT send appeals via email as they will be discarded.
HIGHER APPEALS:
- A higher appeal is available for those who wish to pursue the appeals process further. Higher appeals are only in the written form and must be filled out in person at Parking Services. Higher appeals may not be filed online. These appeals are reviewed by the Chairman of the Traffic and Parking Authority. IMPORTANT: FILING A HIGHER APPEAL WILL NOT PREVENT THE 50% PENALTY FROM BEING IMPOSED ON THE ORIGINAL APPEAL AFTER THE FOURTEEN DAY PERIOD.
