Eagles soar past Vols in third period
October 11th,
2008 – The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles relied on five third period goals and some
Tennessee penalty trouble in the final twenty minutes to overcome a 4-0 first
period deficit to defeat the Ice Vols 6-4 Saturday
afternoon. FGCU dominated Tennessee in the final frame out-shooting
the Vols 26-1 on eight powerplay
opportunities. Tennessee held a 4-0 lead after the first
period when FGCU ran into their own penalty trouble,
but could not find the net again in the game.
Despite giving up six goals BJ Keyes put in a solid performance in
goal and kept the Vols alive while killing so many penalties. More game details to follow.
Vols Shutout USF
in Frozen Fall Tournament
October 10th,
2008 – The Ice Vols opened the UCF hosted Frozen
Fall Tournament with a 7-0 shutout victory over the USF Ice Bulls on Friday
night in Rockledge, FL. Kelsey McLean picked up his third career shut-out
victory for the Vols between the pipes. With the
victory he moved himself into 4th place on the All-Time Wins list
with 21, passing former Vols goaltender Jordan
Fife! More game details to follow.
Icevols Stomp gators!
October 9th, 2008 – The Tennessee Hockey Club
opened up their four-game weekend in Florida with a bang by stomping the
Florida Gators 13-5. The Gators tried
to keep it close for 20 minutes, but the Vols
pulled away after a finding the back of the net 6 times in the middle
frame. In net for the Vols, Joe Gauvin picked up his
first victory of the season and sixth of his career. More game details to follow.
vols trounce
vandy in season opener!
October
4th, 2008 – The Ice Vols opened their
season with a bang in Nashville last night with a 15-4 trouncing
of Vanderbilt. Joe Williams had a
monumental night for the Vols as he was not only
passed on the ‘C’ as the team’s new Captain, but his five point night also
meant that he passed former teammate and previous Captain Jon Benner into
second place on the All-Time Scoring list. Williams now has 209 career points
and lays only six points behind Preston Dixon as the All-Time Leading Scoring
in UT History. Line mate, senior forward and newly named Assistant Captain
Tommy Morgan also had a marvelous game recording four assists to go along
with his hat-trick for a seven point night.
Four players on the team, including twins Brett and Travis Bastecki, sophomore Evan Marroni,
and freshman defenseman Will Byrne all picked up their first career
collegiate goals. As well center
Justin Maphet made his return to the Vols lineup a marvelous one, recording four points on the
night. Maphet
had sat out the past two seasons to focus on his academics. Goaltender BJ Keyes picked up his 23rd
career victory with the win, keeping himself in 3rd place on the
All-Time Win list!
