There is a great deal of information that one must keep in mind when filling out the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid). Therefore, we are providing the following information to help make the process somewhat less complicated.

The information that you provide on the FAFSA will be applied to a formula by the Central Processing Center. From this formula a number will be generated. The EFC, or Expected Family Contribution, is the end product of the FAFSA. The EFC is located in the upper right corner of the SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is simply a summary for the student and their family to review and determine if the information that they reported has been recorded accurately. It is the EFC that is used to determine what type and how much aid a student is eligible for under the federal guidelines.

Below are some of the frequently asked questions concerning the FAFSA

  • UT Title IV Code: 003530 Codes For Other Institutions
  • A student is considered independent only if they can answer any one of the questions numbered 48-54 "yes". Unless there are extenuating circumstances, which is discussed later.
