Extension
programs in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology provides educational information about
insect pests and plant diseases. This information is provided for field crops (corn, cotton,
soybeans, wheat, forages, tobacco and other small grains), commercial horticultural crops
(vegetables, fruits, woody
ornamentals, turf and flowers). Assays of fescue samples for the fungal
endophyte and of soil samples for plant parasitic nematodes are made. Structural household, home,
lawn and garden pest control assistance is provided, as well as management of honeybees and control of diseases and mites
that attack them.
Other
on-going programs include, Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey
(CAPS), Integrated Pest Management
(IPM), National Pesticide Impact Assessment Program
(NAPIAP), Pesticide Applicator Training (PAT)
commonly called pesticide certification training, Worker Protection Standard (WPS) and pesticide
safety are provided or assisted with by the Entomology and Plant Pathology Department.
