Announcements

12/19

Its been awhile since I or anybody else has posted to the website so I thought I should give a shout out.  Thanks to everyone for coming to the last meeting and paying dues and buying uniforms, all the orders have been made and everyone is excited to get their new kits.  I hope everyone did well this semester and had plenty of fun!  Also thanks to everyone who participated in the t-shirt selection the ballots are in and I'm now working with my friend Joey Watson who did all the t-shirt designs to finalize our shirts.  I'll let you know when those are ready so I know who wants one.  Hope everyone is enjoying their break and able to get out on their bikes this is the time to get in those long endurance rides to build a good base for the upcoming race season, I can't wait.  Well get together and do some group rides when everybody gets back.  Thanks Sean

11/19

Hey everybody, sorry I haven't updated the site in awhile, i've been busy as I sure everyone else has with school starting to finish up.  Hope everyone is getting to get out on the bike, I know its cold but it's really worth while to get on the bike now and prepare for the season.  Our first race is Feb. 10 at Florida!  It should be a lot of fun and I already heard of quite a few people going including myself.  If you haven't paid dues or ordered jersey's you need to get in contact with Mark ASAP.  We also have the list of teams so I'll try to get that an display on here and email it to everyone so we can ride with each other.  Also, recently Mark, Amanda, and I were contacted by Chad Black an associate professor of history, it looks like he'll be our new advisor.  He's a great guy with a lot of cycling experience so if you have any questions or just want to meet him feel free to go to his office in Dunford.  OK, thanks Sean

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great fall break! I just wanted to mention a few important things with you.

First, being I hope that you all are as excited as I am about the upcoming winter training, don't get discouraged by the cold.  Although, I apologize for not having any group rides, if anyone wants to ride just shoot me an email.

Next, in order for this club to succeed we need everyone's help. I want this to be a democratic organization, so if anyone wants to take initiative in the club and help plan things such as race arrangements and things of that nature please let me know. I want to see a good turn out of racers, it's tons of fun and a great atmosphere for racing!

I've contacted atleast 5 different businesses for sponsors over the last month or so and unfortunately NO ONE has offered to help.  Pretty sad for a town as big a Knoxville that no one wants to take part. I think John was contacting a few, I'm not sure what happened with them.

Lastly, Mark posted a poll for the next meeting, so check that out and put in your vote. The next meeting will be important because we will be ordering kits and turning in dues.

Thanks for your time!!

Just thought everybody would like to know I put a couple of more rides on the website and we aren't sure how much everybody knows about training, so we thought we could put some good articles on here about preparing and training ideas.  Here's a good one Mark gave me the other day to put on so check it out - download article!  Also feel free to ask Mark, Amanda, or me about ideas or what you could do to become better.  We are all looking forward to the season coming up and I think the team could be awesome and really be competitive.  Thanks Sean

hey everyone, i just wanted to let you all know that i went by bike zoo, earth traverse, and blue ridge sports to talk to them about being a sponsor for our team. if anyone else wants to help find sponsors go to the files section and print a copy of the sponsorship proposal. bottom line is sponsors=money and money=less expensive to race collegiately.  if you have any questions on what to say or do just email me. we need to get in touch with sponsors asap because we need to have their info finalized in the next couple weeks. last year we had mellow mushroom and the outdoor center as sponsors so hopefully they will help again this year. Thanks!

Thanks to all those who came out to our first meeting of the year last Wednesday, the 6th.  We had a good showing and it looks like a lot of people are interested in riding and racing together.  Sadly for me no one was interested in the mtn. bike race season but they've been a lot of fun so far and there are a couple left so if you have interest email me.  For those of you who missed the meeting don't feel bad we know everyone has their own schedule.  We'll have a second meeting sometime in a couple of weeks, stay tuned.  thanks Sean

I believe club dues will be just $40. Jerseys should be an additional $55-65 depending on pricing, this year all clothing money will be due up front to make the process go by smoother. Remember if you want to race you must have a club jersey. Also before we can get jerseys made we need sponsors so if anyone new or old members has any connections with a business that would like to be on our club jersey please let me know asap.

Hey, hope everybody is having a great first week of school.  Mark, Shanna, and I (Sean M) went and did the Vandy Race this weekend.  It was a lot of fun, the collegiate had a good showing with FSU and Florida showing up and as always the "mean machine" of Lees McRae.  We did the time trial on Saturday and it was pretty techy with a lot of twists but all three of us didn't have any mechanicals and were able to catch a couple of the competitors on the course.  The Sunday XC race provided us with even more challenges with a unridden section of really techy, twisty, knarly, and tight single-track that could really piss you off sometimes but for some reason I found fun after i got through it.  I was able to pace myself of some GT riders and TBRA guys on the course and pulled in a 5th place for the University of Tennessee.  Lees McRae took the top 4 which shows you how strong they are!  It was a lot of fun as far as riding but also getting to chill with the teams and hanging with friends if anybody is interested in the rest of the mountain bike season give me and Mark at shout via email or come by the Outdoor Program.

Hi all,
I just wanted to welcome everyone back for another great year and also welcome the new comers to the club. We have almost one full year under our belts as a club and I'm sure we all learned a lot. Firstly, I would like it to be known that we will have a focus on racing this year so I hope everyone regardless of ability has an interest in competing at some point. Collegiate cycling is probably the most grass roots form of competitive cycling available today so my goal is to try to cultivate new riders so that they can enjoy the sport of cycling. This year we will have group rides, a road ride in the morning on one day and one in the afternoon on another, also we will have at least on mtb ride in the fall. All of the times are being discussed and we should have ride times posted by the end of next week. For those of you interested in Mountain bike racing please get in touch with me and we can work out the logistics. Also please check out the yahoo groups so everyone can be in touch with each other if you want to ride outside the group rides the link is: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/utkcycling/
Also please let me know if you do not wish to receive anymore emails and I will delete your name immediately. I will send out another email with meeting times, dates and group rides. Thanks everyone and I look forward to riding with you.

  Mark
