About
Us CSA is a community of Catholic
students dedicated to helping each other develop spiritually,
intellectually, and socially through faith, fellowship, and
service. We are a large part of the parish at the John XXIII
Catholic Center located on campus right across from the Black
Cultural Center. We meet once a week on Wednesday at 7pm in
the Paulus Room of John XXIII. We have special guest speakers, “Love
In Action" nights, Faith nights where we learn more about the
Catholic Church’s teachings, bible studies, and so much more.
We schedule a good number of social events like sitting together at
football games, bowing nights, movie nights, and off-campus
activities. We participate in several service projects such as
Interfaith Hospitality, Tim Kerrin Food Drive, Catholic Charities,
and Parish-wide activities. We also sponsor "LIFT UP" - Living
in Faith Together, United in Praise which is a night of scripture
study and faith sharing blended with live, student-led praise and
worship music. We regularly attend the Student Mass on Sunday
evening at 5:30pm and 10:00pm. There is typically a warm,
home-cooked meal served afterwards for a mere $2.00! We are a
very active group and we encourage everyone to come and share in
faith, fun, and fellowship with us!
Current News
(3/24/2008)
I hope everyone had a great spring break
and a Happy Easter.
We have a big week coming up at
CSA.
Best friends Tom Wiesner and Preston
Fields are coming to CSA Wednesday night. Preston will talk about
discerning vocations (especially those of lay people) and Tom will
accompany the talk with his own music. Afterwards they will be
available to talk to, and they will be selling t shirts and CD's for
$10, so be sure to bring money.
Our first softball game is this Thursday
at 5 pm. Unfortunately we will not be able to practice before
then, so we will meet at the IM fields at 4:30 to set up over
defense. Be sure to bring your glove, and if you have an extra
one you don't mind sharing please bring that as well. If you
would like to see the rules they are available at http://recsports.utk.edu/Programs/Intramurals/IMPDF/Rules/Softball.pdf.
We are in a co-rec league, so we need at least 5 guys and 5 girls to
play.
Friday we will be going downtown for
dinner and a movie. We will decide on the restaurant (most
likely Tomato Head or Downtown Grill and Brewery) and movie that
night. Be at the church at 6:00 if you want to
go.
Also, don't forget about our new
Blackboard site. If you go to the communities page and search
for Catholic you should be able to find us. If you tried
adding us before Spring Break, you may need to try again. Let
us know if you have any problems.
Finally we have a message from the Knights
of Columbus:
“The Knights of Columbus are hosting their
first annual college men’s retreat this Friday & Saturday (March
28-29). All Catholic male students at UT are welcome.
The trip will consist of a great bonfire, devotionals, prayer,
hiking, and fellowship.
The cost is $35. We will be meeting
at J23 on Friday at 5pm and going to Cosby, TN to go camping and
will be leaving the campsite at noon on Saturday. Food will be
provided, as well as tents, sleeping bags, and foam pads for anyone
who does not have one. If you are interested, please RSVP on
facebook or email Deepdish@utk.edu. Here is a list of
recommended things to bring: Rosary, Bible, pillow,
toiletries, hiking clothes, sleeping bag (if you have one), tent (if
you have one), and musical instruments (if you play one). We
encourage you all to go if you can. It should be a great
time.”
God Bless, J.D. Elder David
